PROJECT 1 : SKETCHES & tonal value
A first-hand conscious experience is important in the understanding and articulation of space. This assessment introduced students to visualization and expression of space through on-site sketching activity on campus.
For our first project, PROJECT 1A allows us to go around the campus grounds freely and express various spaces through free hand sketching while PROJECT 1B allows us to practice our sketching skills by using hatching techniques such as : short hatch, cross hatch, scribble and stippling to sketch out the House in Kamakura.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Through these two projects, I was introduced to different types of mediums of sketching in a presentable way. By using proper rendering techinques and light weight to show scale and proportion, I'm able to create a meaningful sketch which gives off a story line visually,
PROJECT 2A : ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION

EDITH FARNSWORTH HOUSE.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

This is the first project that gave us a first hand experience of using technical pens, t-square and scale ruler to produce proper plans , section and elevations that are to scale. I also learned to produce better quality line weights by using technical pens ( which are hard to use, like seriously, super hard. ) and also some construction details through cross section of EDITH FARNSWORTH HOUSE.
PROJECT 2B : AXONOMETRICS
By using the same building, students are required to explore and understand more about the building, including the construction details as well. In the end, they have to come out with an axonometric drawing that can explained all the parts involved in the building. By attending all the lectures, they will understand the steps to draft an axonometric drawing as well as the line weight, line composition, and etc.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Following up to Project 2A, axonometric projection introduced us in expressing the design and construction of the building in a more visualized way. I've learned to present a building in a more precised and accurate way by its construction means through exploded axonometric above. This allows us to express the interior of the building clearly.
PROJECT 2C : PERSPECTIVES
By using the same building, students need to generate the perspective drawings, which are 1 point perspective and 2 points perspective. This type of drawing can illustrate the 3D form of the building and communicate with the viewer. By using the components, such as Picture Plane, Ground Line, Vashing Points to create perspective drawings (one point for interior, two points for exterior). From the different angle of viewing the building, may affects how the drawing will looks like, it can be either bird-eye view or worm-eye view in the 2 points perspective drawing.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Placing all free hand perspectives aside ( which is the first thought of what perspectives are ) this project thought me a lot about one point and two point perspectives by all technical means. By using line weight which we learned from the past few projects, I'm able to present the perspectives in a more visual and accurate way.
PROJECT 3 : FINISHING & PRESENTATION
The final project is collaborated with Design Studio 1 final project which is to design a hideout for a community icon.
In this project, students are required to prove their ability to visually communicate ideas and own design to others clearly, to work efficiently and deliver within a set timeline and to create a cohesive and captivating package based on your acquired skills and natural strengths through the following criteria:
-
Creating a highly legible board
-
Understanding their skill set and strengths
-
Identifying what material needed and can produce within set timeframe
-
Visual identity and/or a consistency in style

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Throughout the past few projects, I'm able to put in what I've learned and compile them into the presentation board for the final hideout project, The most challenging was to express the overall design and interior of the hideout itself by using technical drawings : plans, sections and elevation as it was not an existing building unlke FARNSWORTH HOUSE. I had to visualize how the interior would look like and draw out the perspectives and also the some building constructions for the cross section.
